An ill at ease old house

The big old house

began to creak

as if awakening

from years of slumber.

It moaned and groaned

painfully arthritic

against some force

in protest

of the interference,

the disruption

of peace.

Every board and batten

began to expand

and contract

under pressure

Against the wind.

Years of rain and cold

left them warped

ill at ease

It longed for sleep.
